Winston

Today’s one-sheet includes a big ol’ shout-out to Greg, the Gritty Gorg. I know that he’s a hell of a commentator on political happenings in this lovable if misguided land (and our lovable if misguided neighbours to the south), and I don’t doubt for a second that he’d make a hell of a statesman if he so desired. When he’s not talking shop about politics, he’s about wit and food and scotch and cigars, and reminds me more than a little of ol’ Winnie from time to time. I know there’s more snark…

On Working

I’m rarely the kind of person who suffers anxiety, but being out of work for a little while was awfully stressful. Fortunately, things are looking up. I’m working again. I’ll be working a variety of jobs, keeping busy, keeping variety in my work life. Eventually, I’ll want something 9-5, something full time, some single thing that’s really, really stable. But that’s not me, not right now. And it took a while to realize that. It sucks to be anxious about money, and I’m glad that that’s coming to an end…

Yellow Computer

It’s funny. I started reading way early — like, before the age of four — and I had parents who always read to me and read and Mom wrote all the time and my teachers were incredibly supportive of my writing, but for whatever reason, that dumb yellow computer still sticks in my mind as something that really stands out in my development as a writer. It was freedom. The freedom to write, the implicit suggestion to edit that comes with word processing, the ability to share stories with…

One-Sheet: Every Runner Knows This Moment

Today’s one-sheet shout-out is to someone who was so enthusiastic about my first one-sheet (the one with Captain Picard in his ambassador’s jacket) that I just had to feature her. Head on over to follow Peady on Twitter and you will find one of the most exuberant, supportive tweeps out there. She’s a COO and mom, digs TNG, and her Twitter avatar is a lovely, classy-looking glass of wine, which makes her just awesome in my mind. Thanks for the support and your happy tweets! Paddle your own canoe, guys…

One-Sheet: Andorians

Today’s one-sheet shout-out goes to Paul, who is not only awesome to chat with on Twitter, but is probably one of the most fun people in the world to watch James Bond movies with. Ever wanted a two-handed running commentary of horribly campy movies? This is the guy to do it with. I think the only time we were silent at any point during any Bond flick was during the Bond/Trevelyan fight at the end of Goldeneye, which we both had to admit, perhaps reluctantly, that it was not only…

One-Sheet: Buses

Today’s one-sheet shout-out goes to someone who everyone puzzles over when he’s on the bus — the enigmatic and always opinionated Andrew Snowdon. I have yet to meet anyone who actually knows what he does day-to-day, but he’s occasionaly spotted at a blog and slightly more occasionally at Apartment 613, where he’s a theatre critic. I have yet to come across compelling evidence that he’s in fact not Lex Luthor in a ginger hairpiece. Keep an eye on him in case he tries any world-dominating real estate scams. Paddle your own…

One-Sheet: It’s Okay

Today’s one-sheet shout-out is to the self-described serial blogger, Peter Raaymakers! If you’re on Twitter, give him a follow. I get a yuk or two a day seeing this guy’s tweets stream past. He’s clever, and no wonder–he’s one of them communications guys. Thanks for chiming in when I was crowdsourcing! Paddle your own canoe, guys and gals. Trevor

One-Sheet: Super

Today’s one-sheet shout-out is to Martin Couto, who is a joy to banter with on Twitter. He’s an all-around awesome dude, an avid gamer, and a conaisseur of tasty beverages. He’s leveraging these beverages in an upcoming beers and bistros blog that will be called Opulence & Libation. I won’t link to the partially-completed site, but in the meantime you can follow the brains behind it on the Twitters. Marty also tweets as the Beer Baron, and his O&L partner in crime is at beernbite. Go chat with Martin! You’ll come away with a…

One-Sheet: On Beauty

Today’s one-sheet shout-out goes out to the lovely Nadine Thornhill! Nadine is a super-groovy blogger, sex educator, playwright, burlesque performer, mom and partner, and much more. Go read her fantastic blog, Adorkable Undies, and now watch her video! And encourage her to get on camera more, because she is nine kinds of fabulous. Nine kinds. And not one of those kinds of fabulous involve pants. Paddle your own canoe, guys and gals, Trevor

One-Sheet: Tauntaun

My sister texted me late last night: What’s the internal temperature of a tauntaun? Now, Nerd Sister, being a nerd, frequently texts me things like this. Recently, it was questions about the Sword of Shannara series and why Kryptonite hurts Superman, being that he’s from Krypton. So I treated it like any of her other questions: with a degree of critical integrity. It would have to keep Luke warm in the frigid wastes of Hoth until Han got the shelter up, right? Hmm. Warm enough that it would maintain human core…
