The trailer for Picard Season 2 dropped and gave us some new alt-timeline uniforms and commbadges. Note that this is a collection of digital STL files for 3D printing, not physical objects! The Picard Season 2 trailer dropped and gave us new costumes and new badges – and I had to try my hand at making them! This collection includes the two variants of the commbadges we saw worn by Picard (with four rank bars, presumably at the rank of Captain) and Rios (due to the single rank bar, likely…

Vlog – 3D Printer Repair complete!
The 3D printer repair is complete! New stepper motor, new belts and pulleys, new second hotend, and a full teardown and rebuild! I made our Velleman Vertex k8400 sing again and I’m very happy about it. A quick summary of what I did: Replaced the Y-axis stepper motor Replaced the second hotend’s heating block, thermistor, heating element, nozzle, and the brass block they all slotted into. Qlone 3D Scanning App First Impressions
Watch the video or read all about it – either way there’s lots here to check out! One of the things about making stuff is that I’m never sure what might be the best way to share our projects. But with the technology in our pockets getting better all the time, maybe the best way to let you experience one of our projects it to actually scan it and put it on the internet for you to see and download. I wish we had this when we were doing the PiGRRL Zero Unboxing video! Would have made shooting it way easier. You can find the STL file for the DSLR camera mount on Thingiverse right here!

It’s Sunday again, and I’m on my way to the office to do some skills assessments with new students, so this week’s reading will be short. 3Doodler: The World’s First 3D Printing Pen – WobbleWorks LLC, Kickstarter I love it when interesting Kickstarters get hella funded off the mark. The 3Doodler is a new take on 3D printing–rather than a $1200 MakerBot you can put an $85 pen in your hand. And unlike all other 3D printers on the market, the 3Doodler is INSTANTANEOUS. You have an object just as…
Sunday Reading 10/02/2013
Good morning folks! The plan for this morning was to sleep in, but there was one three-year-old and one five-year-old who had other plans entirely. Thus, instead of sleeping in there was laundry and cleaning and blogging and very soon a workout. Let’s round up the week together. Microsoft Surface Pro Review – David Pierce, The Verge Oh man oh man oh man. I’m psyched about the Surface. You’ll remember how much I love Windows Phone and how I was pretty thrilled to experiment with Windows 8 on my old…
