Ron Finley has a simple message that I want to impart not only to my little ladies but also to my students. Take responsibility for yourself and those around you, and be healthy.
It’s sometimes a struggle to get my ladies to eat vegetables. Carrots are frequently left uneaten. But last summer, when we grew veggies in the garden, they wouldn’t even wait to get all the mud off before crunching through a carrot or five.
Ownership of your own health and nutrition, of the process of feeding yourself, is a powerful thing, and I encourage everyone to do as Ron Finley says, now that spring’s here and we Ottawans can get outside: put a garden together and feed yourself. And then share your gardens with us here at spillway!
Paddle your own canoe, folks! Go plant some shit!
